During our routine maintenance we have found in some cases that the emergency and exit lights work on the same circuit as the main lights. This will deplete the batteries inside the unit when lights are switched off after hours. Emergency and exit lights are required to be on their own circuits.

In the case of a power outage during an emergency, occupants inside a building require some form of light to exit the building. To be compliant, the batteries inside the unit need to operate for a period of 90 minutes during an emergency.
